The United Nations made it official in 2012, which means this holiday is younger than most people's Netflix accounts. And yet, here we are, celebrating generosity like the wholesome humans we occasionally manage to be. The beautiful thing about charity is that it doesn't require a gala, a red carpet, or a tuxedo you'll rent once and immediately regret. It shows up in the quietest corners of everyday life — the neighbor who shovels your walkway without being asked, the friend who texts to check in right when you needed it most, the stranger who holds the elevator door with genuine patience instead of that performative almost-closed-it grimace.
