Something To Celebrate: The Owl on the Other Side of the Screen

The Owl on the Other Side of the Screen

This week I was sitting out on my screened-in back porch when a barred owl landed close enough that I could really see it — not just catch a glimpse of something flying off, but actually look at it. Those dark eyes, that stillness. I was grateful for every inch of that screen between us, not going to lie.

There's something about a wild thing showing up right at the edge of your ordinary life that makes you pay attention in a way you weren't a minute before. I wasn't looking for a moment. I was just sitting there. And I think that's the part worth noticing — how much is happening right around us when we're not trying too hard to find it. Some things only come when you're still.

Whenever something like this happens, my instinct is always the same — find a little something to mark it.
