Something To Celebrate: A Cold Start That Warmed Up

A Cold Start That Warmed Up

On July 4th, Krista launched Etsy Ads for Art In Science Designs with no campaign history, no data, no warm audience — just a starting point and a willingness to see what would happen. Ninety days later, that cold start had produced 12 conversions and $750 in revenue, with a return on ad spend hovering around 5x. She noted every click with gratitude, and that detail stuck with me.

There's something worth sitting with in the fact that the beginning was unremarkable — no momentum, no proof it would work, just a decision made on an ordinary holiday. Most of the time we're waiting for better conditions before we start, as if the algorithm owes us a running start. But 12 real people found something they wanted, and bought it, because the shop showed up. That's not a small thing. A zero becoming a number is its own kind of milestone, and 90 days of showing up quietly — without a guarantee — is exactly the kind of work that deserves to be named.

Whenever something like this happens, my instinct is always the same — find a little something to mark it.
