Something To Celebrate: Work That Reaches Further Than You Can See

This week my boss' boss called me personally — not an email, not a Slack message, a phone call — to say thank you. The insights I'd pulled together had helped him walk into an important officer meeting feeling prepared, and he wanted me to know that. It was one of those moments I almost didn't let myself fully receive.
I've been thinking about what it means to do quiet work that ends up mattering at a level you couldn't quite see from where you were sitting. I didn't know what that meeting room looked like or what was at stake in it. I just tried to be useful with what I had. And sometimes that's exactly enough — someone walks through a door more confident because of something you handed them, and the work finds its purpose on the other side of a wall you never enter. That's worth pausing over.
Whenever something like this happens, my instinct is always the same — find a little something to mark it.
