Something To Celebrate: International Traffic Light Day

Did you know that International Traffic Light Day falls on August 5th, marking the anniversary of the world's first electric traffic light, which was installed in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1914? One small red-green contraption, and suddenly the whole world had opinions about what "yellow" actually means.
It's a funny thing to think about, really. Traffic lights are so woven into daily life that we barely notice them anymore. We groan at the red ones, feel mildly victorious at the green ones, and make very questionable decisions at the yellow ones. They're just there — quietly doing the exhausting work of keeping millions of impatient humans from colliding into each other every single day. Honestly, a little respect is overdue.
And that's sort of the beautiful thing about a day like today. It's a gentle reminder that there's always something worth celebrating, even in the completely ordinary. The things that hold our world together aren't always grand or glamorous. Sometimes they're a metal pole with three colored bulbs and an unwavering commitment to preventing chaos. We could all take notes.
So today, when you pull up to a red light and feel that familiar flicker of impatience, maybe just pause for one small second. Take a breath. Notice the little system working quietly on your behalf. Then the light will turn green, and you can go live your life — which, come to think of it, is pretty solid advice with or without a traffic light involved.
