Something To Celebrate: World Snake Day

July 16th is World Snake Day — a holiday that exists entirely to remind us that snakes are out here living their best lives, completely unbothered, and honestly? Deeply relatable.
You might not share your morning commute with a boa constrictor or keep a corn snake named Gerald on your bookshelf, but snakes are woven into everyday life in quiet ways. They show up in garden myths, old folk wisdom, medical symbols, and that one dramatic story your neighbor tells every summer. They are ancient, unhurried, and remarkably good at minding their own business — which is a skill we could all stand to practice a little more.
Here is the thing about a day like this: it is a gentle reminder that the world never really runs out of things worth pausing for. A reptile that has been around for 100 million years gets its own holiday. That means there is always something to celebrate, even when the calendar looks ordinary and the week feels long. Joy does not always arrive in grand, obvious packaging. Sometimes it slithers in quietly and asks for nothing.
So today, take a small moment just for yourself. Sit somewhere comfortable. Move at whatever pace feels right. Let the day be a little strange and a little wonderful. The snakes are already doing it perfectly.
