Something To Celebrate: April Fools' Day

April Fools' Day

Did you know one gentle whisper of a theory suggests the origins of April Fools' Day stretch back to 16th-century France? When a calendar change moved New Year's Day, some folks, perhaps a little behind on the news, kept celebrating on April 1st, earning them the playful moniker of "April Fools."

For those of us who prefer our surprises to be of the quiet and pleasant variety, the idea of elaborate pranks might spark more anticipation (or slight dread!) than amusement. But I think the true spirit of today isn't about grand trickery. It's about a tiny shift in perspective, a subtle nod to life's occasional absurdities, and finding a moment to meet them with a knowing, gentle smile.

And isn't that a comforting thought? Even on a day that encourages a bit of playful chaos, there's always something wonderfully simple to celebrate. Perhaps it's the quiet victory of brewing a perfectly normal cup of tea, or the relief of knowing your shoes are exactly where you left them, untied and unglued.

So, whether you're cautiously enjoying the day from a safe distance, or perhaps contemplating a very, very mild and easily reversible piece of mischief, I hope your April Fools' Day holds a moment of unexpected lightness. May your coffee be coffee, and your morning be genuinely good.
